I’m a notorious minimalist, shedding anything and everything that does not directly communicate the intent of what I am designing. I feel strongly that minimalism is a designer’s best friend when it comes to the creative process and actually figuring out the solution to a given problem.

It is through oversimplification that one can become truly objective and create powerful forms by actually focusing on the functional intent of a solution and not becoming sidetracked with aesthetics.

I’ve always loved Einstein’s famous quote, “Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler.”

Certainly you will know this book, but anyway – have a look at
“The Laws of S I M P L I C I T Y” by John Maeda, in which he follows the simple equation simplicity=sanity through all different aspects of design.

I wasn’t familiar with that book Peter. Seems he has a blog by the same name.

Speaking of blogs on simplicity, check out my friend Tina’s excellent blog, ThinkSimpleNow.

I believe that we have the same processes in art.
An artwork is reduced to it´s intended own limits. More would be knickknack. It is limited and opened at the same time … I love the systemtheoretical approach to define art started by Niklas Luhmann, who spun his systemtheory around the observer, who observes others observing …
