Canadian Interiors (click here to visit their website) holds an annual People's Choice Awards: Best of Canada Design Competition, where the public can vote for the spaces they feel are the best designed. There are various categories such as: Offices, Institutional, Residential, Retail, Presentation Centres, Hospitality, Landscape Design, and Product Design.

Interior design is a practice that deals with anything within a space - walls, windows, doors, finishes, textures, light, furnishings and furniture. Good interior design would usually require a space that is safe and function, but also aesthetically pleasing. I found this design competition and the designs up for the awards extremely interesting, and it brings up several questions. What makes good design? What makes modern design? Is modern design necessarily good, just because it's something we haven't seen before?
